Township trustees meeting Oct. 24, 2011

A special meeting of the Board of Township Trustees, Newbury Township was called to order at 7:30 p.m., October 24, 2011, with Mr. Snively and Ms. Blair present. Purpose of this meeting was to discuss the problems currently being experienced with the Fire Department roof. Present for the Fire Department was Chief Doug Zimperman and several other members of the Fire Department.

Ms. Blair reported that the Garland Company provided an estimate of at least $150,000 to install a new roof. Representatives from OTARMA , the township’s property insurer acknowledge that hail damage has significantly contributed to the leaks now being experienced. LWG Consultants is the structural engineer that has been retained by Public Entity Risk Services of Ohio, the loss control agent for the township's OTARMA insurance.

Ms. Belinda Fagan said that the Fire Department has been reviewing other roof designs, and has received an estimate of $150,000 from Larsen Architects for installation of a peaked roof; this does not include repair of other damage to the structure that has been caused by the extensive leaks in the current roof. Chief Zimperman stated that the insurance carried by the Fire Department would be able to cover mold remediation, drywall, fixtures and carpeting.

Discussion was held as to the need to develop a basis for redesign, assuming a requirement to solicit bids for the needed repair and remodeling work. Ms. Blair said she would consult with Assistant County Prosecutor Susan Wieland regarding legal requirements for the proposed reconstruction, and hold further conversations with PERSO regarding engineering detail required to solicit repair/reconstruction bids.

This meeting was adjourned at 8:24 p.m., upon a motion by Ms. Blair, a second by Mr. Snively, and a unanimous affirmative vote.
