OBERLAND PARK:
Nature Works Grant
*Newbury Trustees voted to decline reimbursement from ODNR for Nature works grant which amounted to about $17,000 so that we are not limited in what we can do with the property by a third agency.
*Began discussing possible ways property can be protected so township will be assured of its preservation. The township trustees can add deed restrictions on portions of the property we want to see protected.
*Trustees will have the Lawyer contact ODNR stating that the trail was completed as planned but trustees feel that turning over control of the 88 acres or some smaller amount which encompasses the trail area and the entrance drive was not in the township’s best interest and would decline reimbursement.
History
*Roger shared the history of how the township came about owning the 88 acre Oberland property.
Federal Grant
*Roger priced open shelter material costs above grade with steel or composite roof at approximately $4000. Would need 2-3 months for architectural design needed to get building permit. Shelter size 24’-32’ fits area and will hold 6 picnic tables. Will need to go to bid for construction. Will try to get some of labor donated to reduce cost.
*Roger would like trustees to send thank you letter for broken concrete block fill donation for parking lot.
*Judy and Susan will look into the areas that need landscaping when the snow clears to get an idea of area and what is needed. Areas include: fencing along south parking area by ball fields, entrance to park, around gas well, and triangle in drive by new parking area. Roger will inquire with local landscapers if they might be interested in bidding on project.
*David to check with Silver’s to see if they have a large rock on their property we could use for entrance sign.
Zoning:
Zoning board decided to zone entire property from residential to active park. Passive park can be added later if needed.
