Newbury Township Park Board meeting 4-2-09
Present: Judy Barnhart, Roger Mezak, Les Ober, Jodie Swartwout, George Mazerakus, Susan Walker-Meere, Mark Fritsch
Guest: David Snively & Scott Carlson
Meeting called to order at 7:35 p.m.
OBERLAND PARK:
Federal Grant
*Pavilion: Susan contacted Scott Carlson about the cost of a timberframe pavilion. Scott has constructed several timberframe structures around the county. Timberframing is labor intensive and involves using local hardwood (which reduces energy costs from shipping cross-country) which is crafted in a shop then constructed on site. Scott’s proposal for $14,450 would include: complete set of approved & sealed plans, rough sawn timber and fasteners for framework, one coat of oil for timber, transport of mtl. from mill to shop and framework to building site, supervision of framing. Not included is permits, site prep, foundation, slab and roofing. Earliest Scott could start is fall of 2009. Takes approximately 1 month to get timber and 1 month to craft frames.
Geauga concrete offered to pay for concrete
Roger did comparison of timberframe and conventional framing with manufactured truss. Difference about $9000. Aesthetically, timberframe is much nicer. Mark shared cost of a post & beam design from McCasky. Need to decide which route to go at next meeting.
Next regular meeting: Thursday, April 16, 7:30 p.m. at Newbury Town Hall
